Low self-esteem can take you to bankruptcy court. How? What can you do to stop this from happening?

Because people who have a low self-esteem tend to buy “stuff”, because they think that will make them popular/pretty/successful/happy. You can avoid this by increasing your self-esteem, understanding advertising and it’s negative effects, striving to limit it’s effect on your life, and detaching your self-image from “stuff”.

Interesting question Mike! Well a way that I can think of is that when others ask you to get something for them, you are likely to comply. This is for emotional reasons and so you feel acceptance from your “friends”. I imagine low self-esteem can also be paired with depression. Depressed people commonly consume more food.. And that is not likely to be strictly ramen noodles either. Ice cream, cake, cookies, chocolates among other comfort foods would be on the menu. Depression also causes lacking motivation, so your attendence and performance in money making activities may take a dive as well. With low self esteem, car salesmen and others may get their pitch across to you more effectively as they are the “expert” and you know nothing. To stop this is to take a step back and realize the direction your life is heading and talk to a trusted friend, perhaps even see a therapist to help you out.

Katherine captured the answer quite well and Alex added a totally different look at this subject. Well done! I have nothing to add.
