Some folks think putting their money in the bank is “safe” because it is FDIC insured. Even though the bank is FDIC insured, the percentage of interest that you accrue on your money sitting in the bank doesn’t even keep up with inflation (inflation risk). A better place to keep your money would be at Vanguard. Vanguard has short-term bond index funds and Total Bond Market Index Funds. These are both better options than having your money sit in the bank, losing money to inflation.
