What are some rules to live by when using a credit card?

Don’t buy something you don’t have the money for. Pay your bill in full each month. Never pay the “minimum charge”. Don’t have numerous credit cards.

Well done, Macala! That stupid piece of plastic is not evil nor is it some beautiful thing that will bring you happiness. Focus your efforts on YOU and that card will serve you well. Let’s recap: Pay it off in full every month. If you can’t do that, get rid it. You are not ready to have one. Keep your cards to a minimal level. Two should be fine. One primary one and one backup. Less is more. Get rid of the rest and yes, that may reduce your credit score in the short term, but in the long term you will be fine and the score will go back up as you increase the credit limits on the two you do keep.
