Bait and Switch is used to sell many, many products. What is bait and switch? Example?

  1. Thomas Graham says:

Bait and switch is when a business’s advertisement promises something amazing to get you in the door. Once you get to the business, they will steer you away from the bait and switch you to more expensive products. A good example of a business that uses bait and switch is a car dealership. They tease you with low rates, but it’s really difficult to qualify for those rates. The rates you end up with make them more money; they know not many customers will qualify for the low rate.

Right again, Thomas. Bait and switch is used extensively because IT WORKS! They advertise something “amazing,” which is the bait that gets you in the door. Once there, they switch your attention to better “stuff” that will make the merchant more money.

How can you deal with this? Stop looking for “great” deals. They don’t exist except in advertising. You are not going to get something for nothing or almost nothing. The sooner you realize that fact the sooner you stop being taken by this very effective marketing strategy.
