When your are trying to act rich you become poor because you are trying to accumulate stuff instead of true wealth. When you are are really rich is when you achieve financial freedom and at this point you can really start to be rich, meaning you can be happy and free from money. You can even become happier by giving to others.
Well said, Thomas. Here is the major point to take away from this discussion. In America today the vast majority of us have two options when it comes to wealth. You can act rich (buy expensive “stuff” so you look the part) or you can be rich (save and invest wisely over long periods of time). You can’t do both. Which one do you want to be? There is no need to tell me. Your actions and behaviors tell us all we need to know. Here is one final point: You cannot trust your eyes. What you see out there that appears to be wealth is usually debt wrapped up in a pretty package. The more “stuff” you buy, the poorer you will become. “Stuff” becomes worthless in short order.
