Conspicuous consumption is the belief that the more “stuff” you have, the more successful you are. I should care, because we receive messages every single day that more is better, bigger is better, newer is better. If I didn’t know any better, I might eventually believe all those messages. I don’t need anymore debt, resentment, broken relationships, or unhappiness, and those are the only things conspicuous consumption could add to my life! You can reduce conspicuous consumption’s effect on your life by believing that less is more. You can also reduce it by building up your self-esteem.
I loved your answer, Katherine. Conspicuous consumption goes hand in hand with the hedonic treadmill (google it for a detailed explanation). Becoming self-aware is mandatory if you ever want to rid yourself of this kind of thinking and behavior.
Focus on reducing the advertisements that enter your life. They are everywhere so it will not be easy, but you MUST do it. A successful financial future requires it. The book, Your Money or Your Life, can help explain this message. Also, The High Price of Materialism, will add meaning to these words. Choose freedom over conspicuous consumption. You’re worth it!
It’s like you study my head! You appear to grasp much roughly the following, like you wrote the tutorial within it as well.
