Where can you go to receive a free credit report from the 3 major credit reporting agencies? Why should you?

A free credit report can be requested once per year from each of the 3 major credit reporting companies Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. You can request online at annualcreditreport.com. CBS news estimates 40 million americans have errors on their credit report. Once you know there is an error you can contest it. It’s also useful to study your credit report. You may have credit cards still active. You may not know your debt to income ratio, or your available credit. Knowing your credit report can help you negotiate loans, especially if there is an error, because most errors can’t be erased and lenders may be sympathetic to the inadequacies of the system.

Great comments, Aaron. Go to annualcreditreport.com each year (at no cost) and follow the advice Aaron provided. Take control of your credit before someone else does!
