When you pay a load to invest your money, who does that go to? Other options?

  1. Katherine Graham says:

When you pay a load to invest your money, it goes to the salesperson. Instead, you should invest your money in no-load index mutual funds.

  2. Mike Finley says:

Right you are, Katherine. When you pay a load (commission) to purchase a mutual fund it will go to the salesman, not the investment company who manages the fund. That is simply a waste of your money and you don’t have to do it.

Katherine was spot on in recommending no-load index mutual funds. You can purchase these directly through the Vanguard Group at vanguard.com. What is the key point? Bypass the financial “expert” (financial advisors, life insurance agents, investment brokers, etc.) and go directly to the investment company. It will save you many thousands of dollars over a lifetime. Quite possibly MILLIONS!
